Your illustration is bitter-sweet. The washes are lovely. Have you seen the Ross Bleckner: Watercolors book? I saw it once in a bookstore in the Hamptons and ever since have been trying to track it down without spending $500.
In any event, you've created a hauntingly beautiful illustration that reminds me, all too much, of myself.
Look how beautiful and elegant she is, her perfect match will be enamoured when they find her.
What an amazing sense of atmosphere you've captured here - I can almost feel myself there with them on a warm Summer night. So wonderful. I love the colours and composition, but also the small touches like the cityskyline in the background and the shadows of the people.
Lovely job. I think the real problem is that someone stole the extra chair from her table. Difficult to accommodate a suitor of any kind without appropriate seating....chortle.
What a lovely water colour. Love the mood, the lighting, the pairings, the elegant dress for our lady, her shoes, her flower, her wine and, may be most of all, the expression on her face.
Is she waiting to be scooped up by a man to join the pairs to dance the night away? Or is she thinking when will my hubby/boy friend/white knight finish his all-important-and-all-consuming-work and come dance with me?
Cheers, Kempton P.S. I love dresses and looks like we have a elegant dress, cleanly designed and ready to do its curvy wave when the lady spin around the dance floor. P.P.S. So, Sally, is this a coded message for your charming hubby to learn to dance or bring you to dance or something? I hope he got the message in the month since. (smile) Or is he in trouble already? (smile) Could you pardon him, please? (another smile)
Holy crap, did Kempton just say he likes to wear dresses? No nasty confessions on this blog, please. Besides, I only wear Sandra's dresses when she's not at home...and strictly for vacuuming the house (must be an air flow thing).
